Researches from NYU Langone Medical Centre in New York show promising results of prescription CBD, a purified compound derived from marijuana, on seizure frequency reduction for patients with severe, treatment-resistant epilepsy.

Orrin Dewinsky is currently leading a double-blind, randomized, controlled trial wherein they currently attained results of 37% decrease of seizures in just 12 weeks. Patients who added 99% CBD oil to their current treatments, went from 30 seizures a month to only experiencing fewer than 16 seizures.

But according to Dewinsky, they do not want to raise hopes for families who regularly deal with the devastation of treatment-resistant epilepsy. More research and further studies are still being done which are needed to definitively recommend CBD as a treatment to patients with uncontrolled seizures. Their team expects the trials to be completed by February 2016.
